Maureen ChristieMaureen Christie

Enrico Cecchetti Diploma

Trained originally with Margaret Hopkins’ renowned studio at Charing Cross, Glasgow, then in her twenties, she encountered the Cecchetti method through Una Wallace. Since then Maureen has taken all the major Cecchetti dancing exams including the prized Enrico Cecchetti Final Diploma. She has also been successful in all the teaching exams, culminating in becoming a Fellow of the Society. Maureen was an examiner at major level for a number of years and a member of the Cecchetti Committee for 9 years.

Much of Maureen’s stage experience was gained with Asian Artistes with whom she was involved in numerous performances in Britain, Ireland, Malaysia and India.

Live music is the inspiration for all the classes at The Studio.

Fabrice MaufraisFabrice Maufrais

Director and Teacher
Paris Opéra Ballet Diploma, Lecturer Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, PG Cert. in Learning & Teaching in Higher Education in the Arts

Fabrice trained at the Paris Opera Ballet School. He danced with the Nantes Opera Ballet and Scottish Ballet where he danced a wide range of soloist and principal roles from the classical and contemporary repertoire.

Fabrice originally taught at the Dance School of Scotland and at the English National Ballet School. In 2013 he joined the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland faculty after spending the past 10 years in Canada as the pedagogical director of the École Supérieure de Ballet du Quebec. He has also worked internationally as a guest teacher in Japan, Australia and France.

He was presented with the Dame Beryl Grey Award in 1998 by the Royal Academy of Dance through gaining the highest mark in the RAD teaching qualification.

Jenny FallonJenny Fallon

BA (Hons)

Jenny started dancing at The Studio as a child, and with encouragement from Maureen Christie, was accepted as a Junior Associate of Scottish Ballet. She then went on to train at The Dance School Of Scotland where she was taught by Fabrice Maufrais.

Jenny then studied at English National Ballet School where she gained a diploma in professional dance and performance, and went on to achieve a BA hons degree through a final year at Central School of Ballet.

Jenny danced professionally, performing many roles all over the world with English National Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet, Ballet Theatre UK, Ballet Ireland, Phantom of the Opera, Disney, Ballet Wales and Scottish Opera.

She moved back to Glasgow in 2014 and soon after began teacher training with Maureen through the ISTD, so far gaining a Diploma in Dance Instruction – Cecchetti.

Jenny is delighted to be back at The Studio and sharing her love of ballet.

Rachel Thomas

Rachel Thomas

Rachel began training in the Cecchetti method at a young age at the Cherry Dunn School of Dance, Wimbledon. She attended classes at the Cecchetti Centre in London, was an award winner at the Cecchetti Ballet Summer School, and performed as a member of Surrey Youth Ballet.

Rachel studied Music at the University of Cambridge, where she was elected President of the Cambridge University Ballet Club, and began teaching dancers of all ages. After working at The Royal Opera House, London as Ballet Programmes Editor, she moved to Glasgow to study for a Masters in singing at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where she took second study ballet classes with Fabrice Maufrais, and began ballet teacher training with Maureen Christie at The Studio, where she is thrilled to now be part of the teaching team, offering class and private tuition (email racheljuliathomas@gmail.com for details about the latter).

In addition to her work at The Studio, Rachel is a professional soprano and editor, Manager of Glasgow Cathedral Festival, and Communications Manager for the Frederick Ashton Foundation.
